How the Calculation Works
The first conversion is straightforward: protein per 100 g equals the protein in the serving divided by the serving weight, multiplied by 100. This gives an "as-fed" value that includes the food's natural water content.
The second step adjusts for moisture. Since wet foods can contain 70-80% water, their protein percentage looks artificially low next to kibble. The dry-matter calculation removes that water and restates protein as a share of the dry solids only:

A kibble with 22 g protein per 100 g and 10% moisture gives 22 ÷ (100 − 10) × 100 = 24.4%.
