That number is the key because it lets you compare a 240 ml glass of milk with a 355 ml soda or a 500 ml smoothie on the same scale. The tool converts your serving size to milliliters first, then applies this simple formula:

Calcium (mg) = Calcium density (mg per 100 ml) × Volume (ml) ÷ 100

For example, if a drink contains 130 mg per 100 ml and you pour a 250 ml glass, the result is 130 × 250 ÷ 100 = 325 mg. The calculator then expresses that amount as a percentage of the FDA Daily Value for calcium, which is 1,000 mg for most adults. Tips for Getting Enough Calcium

Shake fortified plant milks well. Calcium fortifiers can settle at the bottom of the carton. A good shake distributes the calcium more evenly across your glass.

Pair calcium with vitamin D. Vitamin D helps your intestines absorb calcium. Many cow's milks and fortified juices are also enriched with vitamin D, which is one reason they are convenient sources.

How much calcium do I need per day? The FDA uses 1,000 mg as the Daily Value for adults. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements gives more detailed targets: 1,300 mg for teens, 1,000 mg for adults up to age 70, and 1,200 mg for women over 50 and men over 70. Adequate intake is higher during pregnancy and lactation.

Is fortified plant milk as good as cow's milk? Nutritionally, many fortified plant milks provide calcium comparable to cow's milk.
