Total carbs (g) = volume (ml) ÷ 100 × carbs per 100 ml

Volume conversions used: 1 US fluid ounce = 29.5735 ml; 1 cup = 236.588 ml; 1 liter = 1000 ml. The estimated sugar is derived from each type's typical ratio of sugars to total carbs. In classic lemonade, nearly all carbs come from added sucrose plus a small amount of naturally occurring fruit sugar in lemon juice, so the sugar share sits around 85–90%. The same approach works for any other drink — swap in its label value for carbs per 100 ml and you can estimate any pour.

Worked Example: 20 oz Fountain Lemonade

Inputs: 20 fluid ounces, restaurant/fountain type, serving size 8 fluid ounces.

  1. Volume: 20 fl oz × 29.5735 = 591.5 ml
  2. Carb density: 10.8 g per 100 ml
  3. Total carbs: 591.5 ÷ 100 × 10.8 = 63.9 g
  4. Estimated sugar: 63.9 × 90% ≈ 57.5 g
  5. Per 8 oz serving: 236.6 ÷ 100 × 10.8 = 25.6 g

Tips for Lower-Carb Lemonade

  • Order "light" or "zero-sugar" lemonade when eating out, and check the dispenser — fountain machines usually have a separate light-lemonade nozzle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is lemonade keto-friendly? Classic lemonade is not. One 8 oz glass supplies roughly 25 g of carbs, which can use up a large portion of a typical 20–50 g daily keto allowance. Sugar-free lemonade is the practical keto option, at about 1 g of carbs per glass.
